Home > Mexico Information > Mexico Currency
The peso is the official currency of Mexico, however because Mexico is located on the border of the United States most businesses and hotels will accept American dollars. The rates of exchange are posted almost everywhere in Mexico. The value of the peso against the US dollar fluctuates on a daily basis. Usually when you use American dollars in Mexico you will recieve your change in American currency. If you decide to carry travelers checks most businesses in Mexico will not accept them. If you do use travelers checks when in Mexico you most likely will need to stop into a bank in Mexico.

Using ATM Machines in Mexico
By far the best way to obtain cash in Mexico is by using Automatic Teller Machines (ATMs). The daily exchange rate is automatically calculated and you can withdraw the amount you need. The ATMs do not charge a commission. However, the bank that issued the ATM card will probably charge a flat service charge (usually around $5 to $10) ATMs are located in almost every city in Mexico. Avoid using ATMMachines at night.
