| With the help of local guides, one can snorkel or dive the local waters viewing amazing fish and coral in relative privacy. In addition to the beaches, one can explore and shop in really three or four small "communities" such as Santa Cruz, La Crucecita, Huatulco (the tourist zone), and old Santa Maria Huatuclo. When doing so, you are able to move between the communites, walking or by using inexpensive taxis. The entire area has a "authentic small town" feel about it and the majority of the time never crowded with tourists. Huatulco is not on the beaten path of foreign tourists because it does not have easy access by several airlines in spite of its own international airport just 20 minutes from some main resorts. However, this is also the reason way Huatulco remains a "secret" and is visited sparingly by international traveler's, usually during the months of December through April. Hautulco, Santa Cruz, and La Crucecita, are located in an ecological zone which means much of the area is protected from future development, and the area is serviced by modern water and sewage systems so that nothing goes into the pristine bays of Huatulco, Mexico. |
